Online learning may seem easy at first glance, but we’re here to tell you that that’s not necessarily the case, especially if your child doesn’t effectively manage their time.

Yes, one of the many benefits of online learning is that your child can learn anywhere and at any time, but if their time isn’t managed effectively, deadlines will be missed, tasks won’t be completed, and their grades can suffer. With the freedom and flexibility that comes with online schooling, it can be easy to fall into the trap of procrastination and poor time allocation.

However, effective time management can lead to greater productivity, improved learning outcomes, and reduced stress levels. Today, we will explore the importance of time management for virtual learners and provide 2 tips to help your child make the most of their online education:

Create a Schedule

Creating a schedule is more important than you think.

By allocating specific time slots for tasks, it becomes easier to prioritize and complete them on time. And sometimes, it’s helpful to visually see what tasks you need to complete. You can sit down with your child and create a schedule on Google Calendar or even physically write one out yourselves.

It’s a good idea to time block when certain tasks should be worked on and any important meetings or deadlines. We also recommend color coding different subjects/tasks so it’s easier to digest.

Having a schedule helps to identify potential gaps in the day, allowing for more efficient use of free time. Something we’d like to note is that it’s essential to be realistic when creating a schedule and to add in time for breaks and unexpected interruptions. Mishaps do occur during the day and you and your child need to be prepared for those so that you don’t feel overwhelmed or confused.

Take Breaks

Taking breaks is also an essential component of time management.

It may seem counterintuitive at first, but taking short breaks throughout the day can actually increase productivity and focus. This is because our brains need time to rest and recharge in order to maintain optimal performance. By taking breaks, your child can avoid burnout and maintain their overall energy level throughout the day.

Breaks also give your child the opportunity to step back from their work and gain a fresh perspective, which can lead to new ideas and solutions.

Even if you and your child have to schedule these breaks, incorporating them into your child’s schedule can help them manage their time more effectively and produce better quality work.

In closing, time management is an essential skill for online learners.

If done effectively, it can help your child overcome procrastination, reduce stress, and achieve better academic outcomes. However, mastering time management requires discipline, focus, and commitment, and applying these strategies can help with that!
